Default problems with the car

Im having a major problem with my 99 s80. I was driving the car yesterday to the airport and all of a sudden on the highway the car started to decelerate while i was still holding the gas pedal. I started to pump the gas pedal but the car continued to decelerate. I pulled over and let it sit for about 30 mins then started up and went on my way. Then about an hour later the car started to do the same. I pulled over and parked it in a parking lot and tried to drive around the parking lot. The acceleration was very sporatic as if it was choking or something. Then i parked it and decided to leave it and i heard some noise coming from the gas tank area in 1 -2 second intervals. I let the car sit overnight and started it in the morning and ran fine for about 40 mins then started decelerating and losing power again. Now the car is parked 1 hour and a half away and im going to have it towed to me friday. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions to what i should do or check. I have a strong feeling its either the fuel pump or the eletronic throttle module (ETM) because i heard that they were defective on this vehicle. Any help is appreciated.

I would check the codes first but kind of sounds like a fuel pump issue.

you know what i had the same thing.. on the way to work; it was about last week and the temperature was at 107 F in california and the car just started decelerating on the freeway. Luckily I was near an upcoming exit so I just coasted off the freeway safely. and it only drove 5 mph and then nothing. No response from pushing the pedal to the floor. parked the car in a lot in front of a shop. walked the rest of the way to work in my slacks and tie ... its was soo hot... then when work was over that night... went to see if it would start up. It did and drove home fine... thought it was the weather but it still feels like it wants to give up any moment now.
