99 S70 Hard Start and Starts Off in 3rd Gear
Hello all,
My names Tom and I'm buying a 99 S70 2.4i from my girlfriends mom as she lives in an area where they can't work on Volvos. I'm a Saab mechanic and work at an independent European repair shop, however I'm currently at school and don't have an Autologic tool .
This is the problem she has described. The car had trouble starting, said it cranked fine however did not start. After a while it did start however she had to give it gas to keep it running. The only car had little power and feels like it may be defaulting to 3rd gear, meaning it may be in limp home mode and the TB is junk. According to records the TB was replaced in 06. The garage, who doesn't know what they're doing, put a used transmission in it and said it's still doing the same thing. My thoughts are towards the throttle body, but she said there were no lights on the dash whe the it finakly started. The car had intermittent CEL's for P1010 - Manufacturer control a/f Metering, Axillary Emission Control. P0442 EVAP Small Leak.
What do you guys think? I'm leaning towards the TB, but I would image a TCS light would come on. I tune Saab ecus and I am handy with electronics. Do most of you send out your TB's to fix them or can you repair them yourself?
Thanks for your time,
Tom

They changed a ton of stuff on this car in '99; so much so that I steer away from them. Sounds like you're a pretty knowledgeable tech so you might have "fun" with it, but I would be leery of putting too much money into this MY personally. Good luck.
