Default ABS

I have a 98 S70 with 146K. The abs trac off light has been on for 20k. The shop I take it to says it will be $688 to fix. They also said I could live without it. The light is not on all the time. Suggestions?

You can get the Module fixed for about $100.00 They rebuild it.

Remember everytime the Light is on the ABS is Disabled.

I would get it fixed.

Here is a site that rebuilds them.

This is my first day on this site. I am driving my 4th and 5th Volvo, a 89 240 and the S70. I appreciate the information. No wonder my Volvo mechanic just expanded his shop, for suckers like me.

ABS Module is most likely the problem.
You can have it rebuild it for $80- $100
Sooner or later the ABS Module will die (typical for many S70). You could still drive the car a little bit after that, just don't get scared if your dashboard lights up like a Christmas tree and the tranny jumps in "w" mode, cruise control or even speedometer stops working, etc. It looks pretty dramatic, but in the end....all you might have to do is to change/rebuild the ABS Module
