AC Makes Loud Sound When I turn it on
Hello, I have a Volvo S70 T5 1998 and when I turn on the AC it makes a loud sound and the sound gets louder if I increase the AC slider to MAX. It also smells something like burnt rubber when I open the hood. Any Ideas? Thanks, Jim
Hey Jim, with those exact symptoms, I would pull off accessory drive belt and check. Could be belt slipping on the A/C clutch pulley causing noise and burnt rubber smell. Maybe assy. belt tensioner not giving enough pressure for the belt not to slip too. I take it you are getting squeeling type noises? Does it stop when a/c is off?
Hi jsj_297, Thanks for replying. Yes, if I turn the AC off the sound goes away. The weird thing is when it first happened I was driving home and it made the car kind of sutter so I turned off the Radio then the air and as soon as the air was turned off I was fine. I am hoping it will not cost an arm and a leg to repair. Once I got it home I popped the hood and turned the air to low and could hear an awful grinding noise but I don't know where it is coming from. So thenoise itself is more like a grinding. Too bad this site doesn't take videos as I have taken a video of it.
