No, it's a 15+ year old car. At that age most of the plastic is brittle and a lot of the rubber is starting to fail. Mileage and age are two different things. I tell people all the time that I'd rather have a 15 year old car with 200,000 miles than a 20 year old car with 60,000 miles.

 

Subject to unknown photo enhancements (and not having been inspected personally) this 98 S70 appears to be in exceptionally good order for its 15 years of life.
The carpets,upholstery and condition of the interior vinyl and trim also seem above standard for a car of that age.
I wonder if it has been garaged or carport sheltered which has helped. It appears to have been much loved by the previous owner also.

Rspi's (Roberts) comment about age and mileage being separate issues is quite relevant in general terms but for this particular example I tend to think it is a worthy vehicle to invest her limited available funds into.
The 120k miles less travel as opposed to a 200k vehicle would take precedence for my decision if I was the buyer in this instance without a doubt.
A a single parent, lady on a limited income as stated who is not especially mechanically DIY savvy she stands to potentially and hopefully spend her money to gain very good value in my personal opinion.
The dealers particularly detailed efforts and level of marketing of this vehicle on the website with video, reports and the vast number of photos instills a confidence that even the average dealer does not normally show on a vehicle they don't have much faith or confidence in.
My earlier opinion / comments on posts about negotiation and /or inclusion of the timing belt and related work in the agreed purchase price still stand of course.

 

I decided not to get it. There was a loud ticking in the engine, a strong electrical smell coming in through the vents and the entire wiper system was broken. Onward with my search.

 

The ticking is normal for cars that has sat for a while. It should stop ticking in a few minutes. Mine ticks for about 2 seconds after sitting all night or more than a day.

Electrical smell, not sure what that could have been. Wiper system not working, that could have been a relay (maybe that is what the burnt smell was) or a bad ignition switch which is common failure for these cars. $59 Part and 1 hour labor.
