air pump/check engine
check engine light came on. took it to auto zone they pulled code for secondary air injection system. pulled air pump. full of water and dead. replaced pump, replaced relay and replaced valve. will the check engine light go off by itself? or do i need to do something. i do not have access to the code reader thingie

the codes need to be manually removed, they will not go away

thank you. could someone suggest the cheapest code reader i can buy that will remove the codes. i know nothing about them so the specific name and model number would help. thank you. without the help here i do not think i would have taken this project on. i learn something new everytime i log on here.

interesting. replaced air pump, relay and check valve. check engine light went off by itself. pump is noisy but i think this is due to the old pump being mounted with rubber and the new one did not have the screws attached to rubber connectors. probable need to put some rubber washers between the air pump frame which attaches it to the car? also pump seems to turn on intermittently when the car has been running and is warmed up already. i hear it when i first start the car and then it goes off when the car is warmed up. is there a temperature sensor somewhere which need to be replaced?
