1992 Volvo 240 Air Pump Check Valve and Fuel Leak
Hey everyone. I posted a thread a few days ago on some issues and I just got done with some maintenance and have some new knowledge to share. Ok, when I removed my Air pump check valve from its vacuum lines I noticed a few things. First, when I removed the vacuum line that runs into the firewall a lot of built up pressure was released. I also noticed that when I inhaled on the black side no vacuum came through but when I blew through the white side it opened the diaphragm again and I was able to pull vacuum through the black side. I put it all back together and let the car run. When I cut the car off and checked it I had the same problem. So does this mean the valve and diaphragm is stuck and needs replacing? Or does the built up pressure indicate something further or the same thing? Any help would appreciated. Lastly, I have narrowed my fuel leak down to the little green screw cap that holds the nipple to release pressure from the fuel rail. A few months ago I took this cap off to let out any air in my system and I found the orange O-ring type thing split and partially hanging out. So I just pulled it all out and trashed it thinking no problems would occur. Sometime after that is when the fuel leak started. So my question is this, is the O-ring type thing replaceable or will I need to find another option because I am unable to find this part anywhere. Thanks again all.

Vacuum generally runs ones way so if you have air movement both ways then a valve is faulty somewhere.
You should get another O ring pretty easily from any parts store, even Home Depot. Just make sure what you get is gas resistant material and the size fits well enough in the cap--shouldn't be a big deal.

air pump? I wasn't aware any B230 engines had air pumps.
re: the fuel pressure shraeder valve, you should get a new valve core for it, the cap isn't supposed to hold the fuel in, the valve stem is. looks to be volvo part 3507920... a regular tire stem is probably NOT a good replacement as tires don't hold gasoline under 45PSI ...

Thanks for the info pierce. And yea I am still confused on the air pump thing myself. On the online volvo sites that is what they call it. The air pump check valve. At advance auto its known as an emissions check valve. So I am not really sure. I will look into the fuel pressure valve. Thanks.
