Default Blower Motor Resistor gone bad?

Hello all,

I recently replace my blower motor in my 99 s70 because of it only working intermittently (blew when brake was applied, otherwise didnt blow very hard). All was well up until this morning when i started my car and my blower motor would not work. I checked the fuse, and it was blown. I replaced it and still not working. Is my blower motor resistor bad? I head that they go bad after 10-15 years? and if the resistor has gone bad, has it fried my new blower motor as well? Thanks for any help you may give.

doubt it messed up the motor.

it is interesting that it worked better when you applied the brake, I would have to double check, but I think those circuits are separate from one another.

Sell tail sign of a resistor gone bad is when you have the full fan speed mode selected it would work well, but less than that it wouldn't work at all.

Could also be in the climate control module (CCM). There is a software update for them, but not sure it goes back to the early models.

if you have a blown fuse, look at the wiring first before you go replacing parts.

update: got home today and found a replacement resistor that i had purchased awhile ago and forgotten about. tested both of the blower motors that i have with a separate power source, and they both work fine. put in both the new resistor and blower motor, and still didnt work. just for kicks, put back in the old resistor and old motor, and BOOM, i have air flow. I have absolutely no idea what is going on. i have air........ for awhile. but it soon ceased to work. so, i switched resistors, still no air. i then put the old blower motor back in, and it works. so, the old blower motor works with either resistor, but the issue with it is that it only blows really hard when i am riding the brakes. while driving it blows probably 50%-60% of full; which is survivable. so i am not going to mess with it until i get back from the trip im going on this week to minnesota. cross your fingers for me.

Lifesgoodhere, i will have to do some reading into the CCM. that sounds interesting.

So, after driving for an hour or two, I realized that my blower wasn't running at all, though cool air was seeping through the vents, I'm not sure how: the faster I drive, the more air flow I get. i have tried all the combinations of motors and resistors i have, and nothing works. i could really use some help.

not sure how the vent doors operate on that year exactly, but I am thinking that they are vacuum controlled. Press the brake, and the vent doors change position, creating the illusion of a blower motor, and or the resistor.

At least this was what was going on with my 89 Jeep Cherokee. Broken vacuum line under the dash.

well, currently i am not getting the blower motor to blow at all. what are the symptoms of the climate control switches assembly going bad?
