Boost gauge???

Boost gauge???
ok this is going to sound like a stupid question, but this is my first booost gauge. When the car is idling what should my boost gauge read? right now at idle it reads like 10-12 lbs of vaccum at idle and when I really get on it, it gets up to about 8 psi of boost. Is this normal? Thanks

RE: Boost gauge???
yeah thats normal*, mine reads about 22 vac, boost I dont really know since I am trying to save gas and not push the car, so the highest I get right now is up to 5 vac, never really goes into boost.
on the other hand I have like 2 feet of extra pvc hose going to my gauge, so I am going to cut that off and hopefully get a better read.
* normal as in when your idling you should get vac and when you accelerate fast you will get boost.

RE: Boost gauge???
1. What car do you have?
2. 20-22 In Hg (Vaccum) at idle is normal. 10 is getting to the point where you need to think about replacing the vaccum lines and turbo hoses.
3. 8PSI for boost sounds normal depending on what car you have. I need to know what car you drive to further help you.

RE: Boost gauge???
I take it from your name a S70 T5. But I wont assume that though.
If you do have a s70 T5 then you should be running about 10PSI. So 8PSI isn't that much less. You probably have a boost leak somewhere. Check your turbo hoses and if you see a crack in any of them replace them. In any event just replace them all. And get the SAMCO versions and or the Stylin Motors Inc. turbo hoses. Better then the OEM ones. Why? Because they are made of Silicone and will hold boost much better then your OEM and for that matter any new OEM hoses that you would put on.
Also check your vaccum lines. Some might be cracked. Again replace them with the vaccum line kit from Stylin Motors Inc. Again they are made of silicone and are much better then the OEM ones.

RE: Boost gauge???
not t take this thread over, but when I accelerate am I supposed ot be reading boost? When I accelrate normaly it only reaches about 10-5 vac before I have to start slowing down(city driving) But I was wondering if I am supposed to get boost even under slow accel? also the boost on the 98 s70 glt is like 5psi right?

Yeah, I have a 98 S70 T5. I think its not going up to 10psi boost bc I found a kink in the hose going to my gauge[:@], Im going to go buy some new line and replace it. I was just wondering about the 18-20 In Vac during idle. Thanks a lot guys
