A/C Compressor clutch struggles to engage on start up and is very loud, and then disengages. Attempts to re-engage when I turn on A/C and continues to attempt to re-engage.

Do I simply need a recharge or have I likely run in to the A/C clutch gap issue that I have read about?

Well id check my pressure, and if it fair or better, i would then(remove cerpentine) check the clutch for exessive play.
