I have a 2000 S70 GLT SE,
I brought it to school down in DC but won't be using it much, whats the maximum amount of time I can comfortably leave it without using it? Is 2 weeks ok? or will I have a dead battery? Thanks

 

It depends on the age of the battery (and probably the temperature outside).

You should be fine for 2 weeks though (unless the battery is already in rough condition). I actually lend my car out to a friend who needs a car every time I'm going to be away for awhile. Keeps the car running better and the friend gets a car for awhile. 2 weeks should be fine though, I'd think.

I once left my Accord for 4 weeks, during December in Boston. The car started fine after 4 weeks. But then, it was less than a year old Interstate Battery.

2 weeks is fine, though it is best for a car to be driven often. If someday you need to leave it over a month like I had to, you may want to disconnect the negative cable, though you'd have to re-enter the PW for the radio, as well as making the engine re-learn correct idle.

When you buy a battery, don't try to save $20 on a cheapo (franchise). The additional $10-$20 does pay off, and as far as I'm concerned, I generally go with Interstate Batteryfor quality, warranty & emergency jump-start service.

I have an S70 TDI, I took it tocollege, it would routinely go for 2 weeks withoutmoving and it was fine. Having said that the battery wasa new one. Only other thing I would strongly recommend you do is to leave it parked with the parking break off and a couple of bricks behind each of the rear wheels. I had problems with the parking break sticking even after only a couple ofdays of being stood.Also ifthe car hasa leather interiorI would recommend covering the seats so that they are protected from the sun/heat. I would also recommend putting something in front of the radiator like cardboard as this can protect itfrom the elements. JUST DONTFOR GET TO REMOVE IT WHEN YOU DRIVE.Also do the usualthings like making sure there is plenty of oil in the car and the tyres are inflated properly. I have Pirelli P6000 on mine and they seem to stand well but I inflated to the load and speed pressures as detailed in the fuel filler door.
