Default Catylitic Converter.. When is time? (running rich)

So in trying to stretch the miles that I can get out of the S70, I would like to put a little money into it now, instead of A LOT later... With 209,000 miles I was wondering what my exhaust system looked like inside.. I did a seafoam treatment and when I did that the exhaust started spitting out a carbon like material (really fine moist powder) brown in color with some black mixed in.

The car has been running REALLY rich so i figured that 1 of4 things is effecting the fuel mixture.

1- TPS code was going off, replaced that with no change to the exhaust odor.
2- O2 sensor code, bought one but have yet to replace it..... still a posibility.
3- The spark plugs are due to be changed, so might be that..
4- The Catylitic converter may be clogged, but not sure..

I don't have to pass emissions or inspection in my county so I was debating removing the catylitic converter, and just bypassing that all together.. What are your thoughts? How long is a Cat good for?

Thanks, any input is welcome.

I would not mess with the cat unless you have problems. The wifes 850 has 230K on it still OEM cat I believe.
If you remove the cat then you will have to do some work with moving the rear O2 sensor out some so it won't throw the CEL all the time.

But if you do decide to do it let me know. There is a company that is supposed to be selling the catless Downpipes for about $150.00 plus shipping. Or an entire exhaust system for about $500.00 shipped with the catless downpipe. But it only sells them for a Turbo car.

Well I replaced the 02 sensor, Air filter, and put new sparkplugs in..... Oh and I ran some Lucas through a half a tank of gas..

Is there anything else I need to do to this thing to lower the exhaust emissions? It still smells rich. Does the computer "learn"? Will it take a little while to register that the system is up to snuff?

If it was running rich due to something wrong it will take a little while to reset or pull the battery or remove the ECU for a little while then put it back in.

I bet it will reset itself this week as I drive it to work 80 miles round trip. It was running rich (I believe) due to the TPS and O2 which have been rectified..
