Default Clueless on tires

Hello again. I need to change out all four tires. My wife was referred to discount tire. They suggested some v-rated Perelli's for about 500$. We're just daily drivers and a bit short on money. Do you folks know of a good alternative to this? Does this sound like a good value to you? Thanks.

Try looking into Kuhmo tires. We sell them at the dealer I used to work at.They compaired to michelin tires. They are very good. You only need to put H rated tires on.Unless you plan on driving at like 175 mph all the time.

hey man,
pirelli's are some of the best tires that i have ever put on my 2000 volvo. they are quiet, soft yet firm feel to the road and they stick to the road at 135 mph. i have to show these ricers what volvos can do.

The guy at Discount Tires says v-rated is what I should get; not because of the max safe speed but because v-rated is supposedly a better construction than h-rated. I'll ask him about Kuhmo too. And thanks for the feedback on the Pirellis.

V-rated will also wear out faster than H-rated tires. At the dealer they replace the V-rated with h-rated tires all the time.

So you would recommend H-rated Kuhmo's if they've got them? Does 500$ for 4 v-rated Pirellis, install, alignment etc. included, sound like a good deal to you?

Yes that sounds like a good deal.Alignments are usually like $80.00 so it sounds pretty good.

I'm pretty sure you mean balancing... throwing in an alignment for new tires doesn't sound right.

I just got my 2000 S70 GLT three months ago....the needing-replacement Michelins on her were the standard 195-60R15's, but the ride was pretty rough around NYC even with new shocks and struts.
Paving here leaves almost every person-hole cover with a 1" dip, and poorly backfilled roadway utility cuts are as rampant as the ravelling paving joints.
The Conti ProContact Extremes recommended to me on another thread aren't made in that size; but the Conti Grand Touring is. Quoted at $670 installed.

I finally went with Hankook Optimo H724's in P205-65-15's two days ago, size which an rspi said would fit OEM 15" wheels. $535 includes a $95 PepBoys rebate, and alignment. Fills the wheel wells, but no rub noticed at full lock.
Smooths out the bumps nicely, but with quite some loss of precise handling, as expected. Operating range of 31-40psi (44max); they're at 36 psi now; I'm going to kick it up to 38 psi next week to see how much nimbleness is restored.
It hasn't snowed here yet, but in wet they seem decent.
The damn tranny cooler line doesn't have enough clearance for the kind of snow that I like driving in.
