Coolant Change

Coolant Change
Well it's about that time of the year to flush/change the coolant in my S70. I see that the owners manual states using Genuine Volve Coolant. What exactly is that? Is there a different brand out there that I could buy that meets the manufactures specs? Specifically a brand that I could pick up at the local NAPA store.
Is it a pretty easy task to change out the coolant on these model vehicles?
Thanks!

RE: Coolant Change
Hey Nathan,
I noticed the same thing in my S70 owners manual. I asked about it at the local dealership and they said that in truth, there really is no "special brand" coolant for use in the S70. They said that while almost any brand will work, the best is to go with a premium brand sold at any local autoshop. I know that if you try autozone they can look up your model S70 and recommend the best type based on the manufacturer's specifications. Hope this helps.

I personally liked Prestone over the years, but as you can read off from the back of the bottles, there isn't much differences among different brands, as long asthey arename-brands. Most coolant are coloured in green, red, blue or yellow. Most aftermarket coolant are green. Certain American makes seem to use "Dex-Cool", and Prestone and other brands sell coolant that meet the specs for Dex-Cool.

There's nothing special about Volvo Original Premium Super Special Ultra Coolant or whatever it was called[8D]. However, if your car is still under new car warranty, make sure that using aftermarket coolant does not void the warranty.
I hope this gets you started.
