Default Different size battery in S70

Posted this on another Volvo site, also. My daughter called tonight and car wouldn't start. Battery was so dead it wouldn't even unlock the doors. Anyway, I had a brand new Everstart size 24FS battery in my shop. I know the S70 is supposed to get a size 47 or 48 battery. I installed the 24FS, which is slightly taller and doesn't have the flanges on the bottom to lock it into the tray. I used an industrial strength zip tie to hold it in place and put the locking thingamajig in the glove compartment for later use. Hood closes fine. Is there any drawback to leaving the 24FS in there as long as it doesn't slide around?

That should work fine for now.

Costco batteries seems to be cheaper. But they said they don't carry battery for Volvo S70 GLT SE year 200 model.

Do anyone knows what Costco battery I can substitute for VOLVO S70 GLT SE year 2000?

The suggested cold cranking amps is what I would be concerned with. That is 520. I just picked up a Volvo battery from the junk yard that said it was putting out 585. The ones they sell at Wal-Mart that they put in these cars have 570 cca. So, get one that will fit with between 520 and 600 cold cranking amps.

The one that I took out of the car was bad, had a bad cell or more. It was rated at 720 cold cranking amps and I drove with that in the car for about 8 months.

The problem with the Volvo batterys is there are flanges on the bottom that lock into the battery holder. It's tough to find a battery for less than $125. I'm wondering if I can modify the battery holder to use a different style battery that is less expensive.

I really would not worry about that. Besides, you'd be surprised how many batteries have that locking system. The Elite battery that I just removed has it and the Wal-Mart Maxx batteries have it as well.

Do you know what kind of jult it would take to get a heavy battery to get out of the tray? I drove about 800 miles with the battery clip out of place and it was still under the hood when I found it loose.

Battery with small bungee cord used as strap is still in place on my daughter's S70 more than a year later!

One thing to keep in mind is a battery that rattles around in the engine compartment will not charge as well as one that is secure. Also I was told that the Volvo battery is "vented". But what battery today isn't vented?

The last battery I purchased from Wal-Mart was vented but the one I picked up from the junk yard was not (at least I didn't notice a vent).
