Does the S70 transmission have a filter?
That is up to you. When you drain and refill you loose about 3 to 3.5 quarts.
Or you can do it your self with the procedure in the forum. That is running about 15 quarts of fluid through the system.

Thanks.
It is a 99 S70 w/ an auto at 103,xxx miles if that helps.
I just had a BG flush done on mine, and I used my own fluid (Pennzoil). They run a cleaner/conditioner prior to the flush, and I made the mechanic drain out the old, put in what was replaced, and then ran the flush. My car shifts beautifully now.
I din't like doing the power flush because it usually takes out to much dirt or knocks it loose and gets trapped else where and causes more problems.
The procedure is somehwere but you take the top cooler line off the radiator and connect a clear hose to it. The start the car and let it run for a few while the fluid drains. When you see bubbles start coming out the hose turn the car off and add 2 quarts.
Continue till done.
Is it a 4 speed or 5 speed?

Oh hell i'm not sure if its a 4 or 5 speed, how do you tell? My guess is it is a 4 speed, the car is not turbocharged.
So is it ok to just open the plug, let what ever drains out drain and then refill it accordingly?
When I went to the Volvo dealer down in the cities a while ago to get some work done. I asked the guy what it would cost to get a tranny flush/change. He said they never do it uneless their is a problem? It's got to get changed sometime dosen't it?

The BG flush does not use any extra pressure, and it does not use reverse pressure either. If you've been changing the fluid regularly, you'll be fine with the flush I think. My S70 shifts beautifully since I had the flush done at 65,000. I had a drain and fill done at 34,000.
