Default door lock inoperative

I have a 98 S70 4 door with power locks. The rear drivers side door lock gave up and would only close and not open. I replaced it with a used and it worked for a few days and now is back where it started (only close and will not open). Now did I just get unlucky when it stopped working or is there something else that controls this door lock? If nothing else controls it then I was unlucky. How much are these new and can you get a better price online somewhere? Is there anything else I can try to find out what the culprit is?

Thanks in advance.

Guy

The locks have a poor design. There is a hook mechanism that is prone to breaking. Go to this link to see what I mean -www.volvospeed.com/Repair/v70latch1.php. I was successful on repairing it. It was certainly difficult and trick to repair. No easy task.

No way! Not $700.00.

I'm not sure what model you have or which side of the door is malfunctioning but there is a new lock unit on ebay right now for bid for about $100.00. I had to rebuild the unit itself which was the hardest to do. If you get a new unit, it is a much easier project. If your are a littlbe bit handy with tools, you can install it yourself. It would take a novice maybe 2 hours the very most. Just imagine what you can do with $600.00.

Thank you elbert for posting that link. I replaced mine with an used whole assembly. I won't have the confidence to do it myself without that instruction.
