electrical fire
I had a small electrical fire the other day. It seems that one of the fuses caught on fire and melted down the fusebox. It was more smoke than fire and it seems to me the damage is minimal. I would like to attempt to fix it myself. I think I have a $500 insurance deductable and I would like to see if reparing it myself is worth it and if a newbie like me can even do it. Seems pretty simple.
This is the picture of the damage:

Before attempting the repair I would like to know if this is really as simple as it seems...just swapping an old fuseboard for another one (assumming the board is the only thing that burned up). Also, what tool do I need to pop it off? I was trying to take it off to see if there is any damage under the board, but could not take it off. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you very much,
James

It is kind of a pain in the A** to get it all the way out. You will have to go inside the car and remove all the relays under the dash. It goes from outside to inside. It isn't really all thaat bad to replace. It is more of a pain to get it out than anything.
I think the connectors that burned are for one of the power seats. It should be the circuit breaker for the seat. You might want to disconnect the seat till you get it looked at. So that this way it doesn't happen again.

Agree with Tech, you need to track down & isolate and/or repair the faulty component that caused the fire before you reconnect the battery, otherwise you'll have the same problem again (or worse).
Good luck.

Thank you very much for your responses. What do you think is the best automotive manual to buy to help me out with this repair? I need an exact schematic of how this thing is connected and hopefully a sequence of steps to perform.
I suspect that the fuse that burned out was the power windows/doors/sunroof. They all quit working for about 2 months and then shortly before the fire started working again. Actually, they used to work for about 20 seconds after I turned the car on every morning, but after the initial 20 seconds they just went dead. So when everything started working I thought things just came back to normal. Little did I know this would happen. In general, this car has had many electrical problems over the years. Hopefully this is the last one, but somehow I doubt it. I really like the car and don't want to give it up. I am somewhat dissapointed in Volvo for screwing up such a terrific vehicle.
Thank you,
James

Your profile doesn't indicate where you are in the world redoctober, but if you are in USA then maybe see what you can find on https://www.volvotechinfo.com/index....in&class=OWNER
Maybe Tech knows where to get workshop tech manuals (again, if you are in USA).
Regards.
