Default Engine dies after starting and dies at stop signs

My 2000 S70 non-turbo occasionally dies when I start it up and will sometimes die when I come to a red light or stop sign. My Dodge did the same thing and I cleaned the idle air control valve to fix it. I can't figure out where the IAC is on the Volvo. I even bought a VADIS disc but it doesn't even reference the IAC. Any help would be appreciated.

The 2000 S70's have electronic throttle control. I would start by looking for vacuum leaks, especially near the throttle control.

i concur... it sounds like a vacuum leak somewhere on the manifold

I had the same problem. Replacing the battery cables fixed it. They corrode and cause low voltage to the electronics. Vacumme also helps, a leak will cause slow cruise control engagement

Well, after 5 months of trying to find the vacuum routing for my car (doesn't exist - not even in VADIS!), I bought some tubing and proceeded to replace every line I could find. Nothing was cracked or damaged, just starting to rot. I followed a hard plastic line from what I think is the canister purge valve toward the rear of the car and found a broken line right under the passenger side rear door. Removed and replaced line and all is good. The frustrating thing is that nowhere on the web did I find anything on the vacuum lines. All the diagrams are for turbo cars. The engine diagram on the Chilton site is wrong too. They have the wrong picture for the B5244S.

I spoke too soon! The car ran perfectly yesterday. Today, it died every time I started it unless I kept my foot on the gas. Rolling up to stop lights, it would die if I didn't keep pressure on the gas pedal. It pulls great with no misses or stumbles. It just won't idle well. When it is idling, it ranges from 250 to 900 rpms erratically, whether the A/C is on or not. Any thoughts?

After reading through quite a few posts about it, I think you're right, rspi. I'm going to try cleaning it this weekend.

Well, I cleaned the ETM the other day. It wasn't real dirty and I didn't have much cleaner but a little dirt came off. I noticed it had the white sticker on the bottom so I guess it wasn't changed in the recall. I put it back on the car and it has run for 4 days without a hitch. I don't think cleaning it did much but as I cleaned it, I had to flip the throttle plate thru its full range of motion to get in all the crannies. I wonder if that may have helped like when the trans solenoid gets out of whack and you have to "row" it back and forth to clean it.

Is it to late for the recall? If so, maybe it will act right for you.

From what I've read on matthewsvolvosite.com, I'm out of the 10 year window and it looks like it would take an act of Congress to get it free. I have my fingers crossed!

Someone just posted something about heated seats recall on a 850. Not sure if my car qualifies for that or if it's to late.

Default S70 stalling

hey man! How ya doin..... I have a v70 t5, and this problem happened to me.... I changed the camshaft position sensor.... Now! I know this doesn't make sense but everytime you turn the engine off the cps does not recognise the position it stops and so does not allow the engine to continue running. It worked for me!
