Default evap question

Anyone have an idea how long an evaporator should last on a car. 98 S70, going to replace for the second time with only 106k on it. Never had a car I needed to replace this part so I dont know if this sounds legit. WTF?

If you put a poor quality one in there the 1st time it could need replaced again. The original ones usually last about 12 - 15 years in the 850's. FCP part have a lifetime warranty. I believe all warranties are betting on the part outlasting your ownership.

I will not spend a DIME in K-Mart.

Wow. That seems rather severe. I have bought underwear, CD's, and several cases of engine oil there and been satisfied with my purchases.
I would draw the line short of computer CPU repair, intra-occular implants, and working on my Volvos however.

PS My '98 is evap is original and working like a champ here in Texas

About 10 years is about all that you can expect with any part. The part is not the problem, it is the labor to change the part.

Evaporators are a part that don't fail very often on most cars. The 850 and 98-00 70 series ones are an exception, for whatever reason. It's a labor- intensive job, but not that difficult- there's a lot worse cars to do this job on. Get a good quality replacement- this isn't exactly a job that one wants to do over.
