I have the same question; I've spent some time poking around the fuel rail and don't see anything that matches the image of the part I need. Could someone give me more detailed instruction? Do I have to unscrew something to expose the FPR?
Also I'm new to the forum and would love a user manual.. I'll keep digging but if someone could point me to it, I'd appreciate it.
That's a 99-2000 car. There's only one fuel line going to the fuel rail so you have a non return system with the fuel pressure regulator as part of the fuel pump in the gas tank. Your throttle module looks old - are you aware of the common problems with them?
User manual? Did you mean service manual? Your best choice would be to find a free copy of the stolen/hacked Vida 2014d on the internet.
hmmm, I thought the FPR on the 98s was similar to the 850s where its located under the intake manifold between 1-2. See if the Volvotips.com web site shows anything for the 850s that seems to match to your 98 S70.

It is on the 1993 - 1998 fuel systems that have a return line. The most recent question was about a 1999-2000 where the injector rail looks like the bottom picture.

It does look like the bottom picture! But I don't see a FPR in the bottom picture. I guess I have to unscrew the fuel rail to access it, or maybe it's not connected directly into the fuel rail?
What are the problems with the throttle module?
I'd like to fix everything myself to save money and learn how, but even if I end up going to a mechanic I'd like to have an idea what I'm talking about so I don't get scammed.

The car keeps trying to accelerate (unevenly, rocks back and forth) without pressing the gas and only accelerates slowly even if I floor the accelerator (takes 50 seconds to hit 40 mph and won't exceed). The guy who sold it to us said it needs a new FPR and I've done research that matches the symptoms and says that this model often has FPRs go bad.
Inside the tank, right. I'd hoped maybe you meant between the tank and fuel rail in a place that would be accessible/on diagrams; I'm guessing this means this repair is beyond me and I need to take it to a mechanic?

As I mentioned earlier - you have the known to fail Magnetti Marelli (sp) throttle module. Have you put a gauge on the fuel rail and checked the fuel pressure? Have you scanned the complete car with a compatible scanner to see what codes might be stored? Have you run the self test (in VIDA) to test the operation of the throttle module? Have you even inspected the throttle module to make sure it does not have a mechanical problem preventing it's proper operation? Personally your "fuel pressure regulator" theory is just a guess from the previous owner and not the answer to your problems. But it is certainly possible that your fuel pump is bad and not capable of delivering the correct fuel pressure (but not a bad fuel pressure regulator)
1998 and 1999 are two different fuel injection systems. It's easy to be confused with info regarding the 1993-1998 systems.
If you don't have access to any diagnostic equipment you could always send your throttle module to xemodex and have them check it. I realize they are in Canada and it's expensive - but that's what it costs to fixed a drive by wire, canbus and module controlled car today.
