Give me your opinions on a 98 S70 T5 manual
I found a 98 S70 T5 manual tranny for sale. The car has about 140k miles. The blue green color. Anyways the pics looked great. Drove over an hour to see the car. When i got close to the car could see the car was painted. Looks good from about 15 feet but then when you get close you see hazy spots. Anyways, drove the car, found out the rear passenger window didnt work, sunroof didnt work, drivers rear door lock actuator didnt work. The car drove pretty good, shifted good, no check engine lights, no overheating. Tried to turn the a/c on and found out it didnt work. When i turned the heat on, i noticed a smell of coolant. Could that be heater core? Got back, opened the hood. Found some rust around a/c lines and the guy said its from up north. Looked underneath and didnt see much rust from what i could see. Anyways, the rear bumper had zip ties on passenger side holding it up.
Ok so with all those problems oh and also the car has a salvage title. He showed me the damage. It wasnt much, just the passenger fender and headlight salvaged the car.
The guy wants 3k for the car. To me that sounds high but i do know how hard the S70 T5 manual are to find. Ive only found 2 so far and the other sold.
What would you pay for this or would you pay 3k even with salvage title and problems?
Oh and thanks im new here

lol well thanks guys, i guess i was more generous, i would give him more than 500. He said he was firm on the 3k. I almost started laughing considering his starting price was 3900 which is way over priced to begin with. Then when i saw the problems, it really made me see it wasnt worth much.
Thanks for the reponses

Make him the offer and make sure he has your number. Don't be afraid to let him know why you offered your price. A salvaged title on a 13 year old car is not worth much, let alone the needed clean-up. I offered someone $3,800 of a S70 T5 once and they turned me down, was trying to stay firm at $4,500. Well, about 45 days later they called me back trying to get me to give them $3,500. By that time I had already gotten another car. I think they ended up getting about $2,800 for it.

Sounds awfully spendy....
Sounds high...I paid $3,200 for my Volvo about a year and half ago. Saw it for sale from owner who worked at local volvo dealership as mechanic. Clean title, good color combo red/black (don't like tan leather) took a look at it and was surpised to see it was a stick. Ended up purchasing it and it has been a good car overall. Couple scratches but nothing out of the ordinary. Waxed it up good and conditioned leather and everything works great. 123K.
The TRACS/ABS light was on when I bought it and just ordered a rebuilt one ($60). The clutch was worn and I ended up replacing it and doing some other maintenance, rear main and the like for about $1,100.
That sounds like with a totaled title it should be about $1,500 tops if the drivetrain was well maintained and from the sounds of all the other broken stuff I doubt it was.

Where are you located? I have a 98 T5 5 Speed for sale. It's silver with primered hood and trunk due to body work. Needs a little work but would be willing to let it go for a very good price to a fellow enthusiast. E-mail me imgustav@hotmail.com
