Default Requesting your opinions on Extended Warranties

I have a 2005 S40 T5 which I bought used and still has a 14 months of factory warranty. I am considering purchasing an Extended Warranty (72mo./100,000 mile) from a company called American Mercury. The warranty is a bumper-to-bumper, true exclusionary warranty at a price of $2500 for no deductible. I read the contract and it seems reasonible and comprehensive.

1. Do you think extended warranties are worth while on newer model Volvo S40 T5s?
2. Have you had experience with American Mercury or any other company, and if so was it positive.

I am considering this because, though I love this car, during the first 5 months of owning it the "check engine" light has come on twice and has required minor servings (still covered by factory warranty). I have a feeling these incidents were related to the replaced fuel line (this was a recall repair item). Regardless, these small diagnostics and repairs would have been $200+ or so each at the dealership. In theory the an extended warranty is a repair insurance policy for about $400 a year. Are they for real and worth it?

Thank you for your input.

Sincerely,
Tom Perica

I didn't even read the body of the thread.

Extended warranties are a waste of money IMO.

I'm not sure if you can do the same thing since I got mine new, but I got an extended warrenty directly from volvo for a little over 2,000 if I remember.(might be 2.5k now that i think about it) mine does have a deductable ($50).

Its easier to deal with volvo than it is 3rd party companies so try to see if you can get one from volvo.

If its worth it, thats another issue, warranties have always paid off in the past for me (well usually)

If you plan to keep your car for a long time, get the warranty. The piece of mind is priceless, trust me. I bought a 3yr 75K mile warranty that covers exactly what the factory warranty covers for $1400. All you have to do is shop around. Here are some links I think I visited when searching around...
