Default hello and a little advice...

Hi, my name is Eyevan.
Here is my scenario. I currently drive an 07 Honda Accord EX 4cyl and I love it. I am looking into the purchace of a 98 Volvo s70 not turbo (no sun roof, no alloys) with 110k on it to use as a beater. This car is at my mechanic's place. He bought it from a customer who blew out her transmission for 1000 dollars. He is going to put in a Volvo rebuild with about 10k on it and is looking for 2500 for it all together. The outside is in really great shape as is the inside. Is this car worth it? The only volvo I've driven alot was a 93 volvo 940 not turbo. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Eyevan.

That's a pretty good price.

Not too many miles...."new" transmission.... sounds nice.

$2500, not bad. Non turbo.....well if you plan on using it a beater, and dont want any performance down the road, then it might be a good buy.

No mods needed on this one. It's strictly to drive. It's so clean I actually feel bad calling it a beater.

yeah, if this S70 isn't going to be your main car to drive around, then I think it would be a great choice to buy it.

I used to work for Honda and I can tell you if its as clean as you say I wouldnt call it a beater! I got rid of my Accord for a 97 850 GLT and I do NOT regret it. Def. has more power and seems smoother than the Accord! I think the fit and finish on the Accors is a little better but it's minimal. Sounds like you are getting a hell of a deal on that S70 especially with a "newer" transmission. I will tell you one thing, make sure you follow the maintenace schedule on the S faithfully and you will have the same reliability as your Honda. If you don't you might have a few issues, but I think that goes with just about most vehicles. Good Luck with the car!

Yeah, it looks like the S is a little heavier than the Accord, so that probably equates to the better handling. Do these cars come with a winter package, or was my mechanic blowing smoke up my butt? Damn, I really wanted a Civic, but this deal seems too good to pass on.

Yes they come with a Winter package. If the car has it there will be heated seats.

The heated seats will stay off in this car. They always really freaked me out. It's a really weird sensation.

Other than the trip computer, I think that's the only option that my car doesn't have. Due to your comments, not so sure I want heated seats now...

The cars with heated seats also comes with windshield wipers on the head lights. This is very helpful when ever there is snow around. I use to live in Pittsburgh and the snow, dirt & grim use to cover the windshield and head lights. On the cars with the headlight wipers, whenever you clean the windshield, the fluid also spray on the head lights and wipe them clean as well.

Now all I have to do is find the time to actually get the car.
