i guess i wasn't quite clear. i have installed the switch, and am wondering if my mechanic, who has a scanner can program it with the locktype PIN, or is there another PIN or a special set of instructions required to do this?
thanks

To be clear, software is required. If they do not have the software, it can not be done.

Only the 99 and up cars need software.
If he has the Volvo scanner he can input the pin and be able to program it.
But it has to be the volvo scanner.

If you dont want to pay too much to activate your trip comp, theres a cheap solution.

Bump.

I have a 98 V70 and know the locktype PIN. The mechanic (who was an *******) at the local dealer claimed I had to purchase a code directly from Volvo in order to make it work. He also claimed I had to swap LCD displays (which was wrong), so I have a hard time believing him.

Hi,
Could someone help me? My car is a v70td 1998 without trip comp. I have a complete set of trip comp ( engine comp, instruments, switch) from a same one. How can I install it?

Tx a lot in advance,

Unhappy No dice with VGLA codes

Was at an independent Volvo shop that has an Autodianose. Guy who normally uses the scanner is still on vacation so another was interested and was seeing if we could get it to come on. Found the screen with the "TRIP COMPUTER" (think it was PROGRAM COMBI --> PROG. TRIP COMP.) and tried both the VGLA Locktype PIN and VGLA Remote key PIN off the history sheet for the car from the Volvo dealer and with the switch installed. Neither worked. Any ideas of what to try next or is it possible we were on the wrong screen?
