HVAC control module?

I think mine is bad, looking to buy a used one, my manual says a I need to take the new and old module to a volvo dealer and have data transferred to the new one, anyone confirm this?

I have never found where a dealer can reprogram a used unit. However, pop a used one in and see how it functions.
