I have an odd problem developing on my '98 S70. From time to time, the key simply spins around in the ignition and will not start the car. The only way to remedy the problem is to play with the steering wheel (back & forth in the lock position) and evetually the key catches and starts the car.

Has anyone experienced this? If so, what was the problem and is it an easy and inexpensive fix?

Sounds like the ignition is bad. Never heard quite like yours, but you should be able to find instructions on how to replace it. Search around a little, and if you don't find it post back and I'll see if I can find something when I get a chance. Do a search for Ingition in the V/S70 forums. I know I've seen it here before.

 

It is a pretty common problem. Eventually the key will keep spinning and not crank the car over at all.
