Default Service light was solid but now it is blinking

My service light had been solidly lit for the past few days. I understand the reason for it coming on but yesterday the light was no longer solid but was blinking continuously. I also noticed that my speedometer stopped working. I'm sure the two are connected. Has anyone experienced this and know what can be done to correct it?

Thanks.

if it's your service engine soon light, you need to get it to a repair shop asap, there's something potentially fatal wrong.

Is it the Service light or the Check Engine Light? What model and year is the car? Are there any other lights on?

98 s70 Base model. No other lights are on just the "Service" light.

Usually that just mean it's time for an oil change. It should just come on and go out after about two minutes. Not sure what it means to be blinking though. Being that the speedometer is not working too, I'm thinking a lose connection. But I really don't know.
