interior door panels

RE: interior door panels
so how do you remove them? maybe i am not correctly describing the problem, as it seems this can't be removed. the part in question would at the level of your arm, near where the door closes but on level with the window buttons.
we are by no means interested in a project, is this a project type job? should we just skip it and move on.

The door panel is pretty easy to remove.
Where you grab to close the door is a little panel remove it to gain access to the screw.
Remove the screw.
Then take the trim ring off around the inner door panel.
The rest of the panel is held in with clips. Pull out to remove and slide panel out and off.

Here is a great you tube video that walks you through removing the door panel from the car. This one describes the process for replacing the door locks, but it will help you get the door panel off the car. It take about three minutes -- seriously! It's very easy.

There are a lot of other videos by this guy for S70 DIY stuff, so see what else is there while you are at it.
I need to fix one of the door panels in my car, too. Has anyone tried the Gorilla glue option with success?
Also, I have heard that you can get it repaired at an upholstery shop as well. I can't imagine it would cost over a couple of hundred dollars, although I haven't had it priced myself. You'd still need to remove the door panel and drop it off for repair.
Good luck. Let us know how it goes!

RE: interior door panels
Well, I have one of the door panels off and everything is glued together. There is no obvious inner and outer section and there is a rectangular 'insulating pad' glued to the back of the panel behind half of the vinyl section. So other than using a needle or something to inject the glue I don't see how this repair is accomplished.

Another option is to purchased used Volvo door panels from a Volvo recycler like Erie http://www.erievovo.com/ I purchased several panels from them in very good condition for $100 - 125 apiece. That's alot less than your estimate for 're-conditioning' your existing panels.

RE: interior door panels
I heard of this one guy who was going to inject glue through the vinyl and then use a hair dryer to soften the vinyl and push it back into place and hold it there somehow until the glue dried. He never got back to say whether it worked or not though. I guess I"m lucky that all my panels are intact on my 98 V70 cause I have seen some that really look bad.
