Default Intermittent ABS failure

Getting an intermittent ABS failure. I can't seem to relate it to temperature or anything else although it may be less likely when driving in the rain. But basically every time I drive, the ABS light comes on for some portion of the drive. If I borrow a OBD2 code reader from Autozone will I be able to tell what the problem is. I know Volvo has some proprietary codes and am wondering how helpful the scanner will be. The Chilton's Volvo guide that I have doesn't list any of the diagnostic codes. From what I've read the most likely failure is a connection which kind of fits in with the intermittent aspect of the problem.

Any suggestions on how to proceed ?

Thanks, you guys are great.

I have replaced everything from wheel speed sensors to ABS modules on these, so I would say you are stuck going to a dealer for the scan since most generic OBDII readers will not help you here.
