Key Stuck
2000, s70 Shifter **** has been sticky, so i thought i would shoot a bit of wd 40 in there. Now the button works great but the key is stuck in the ignition, tried everything including the small lock button on lower right of shifter, nothing, should have left it alone and continued to give it a rap when it hung up. Any suggestion on repair would be quite welcome.

I go through this all the time. The shifter button is a problem but you can pull that forward to see if that addresses the problem. The one that is worse is the little shift release button in the top right corner. When my son sets his hand there he sometimes pushes it down and it NEVER comes back up as it should. I'm sure there is enough soda residue and crumbs to keep it that way. You need to get a needle nose plier to pull it ALL the way up. It pulls up a good 1/4 inch. Just be easy with it so you don't marr the surface or break it off. The car is old and that button is plastic. You don't want to break it.
Personally, I find WD50 to be a bad thing. I have used it many times in the past and it will work for a while, but it will ALWAYS fail to work eventually and you end up with a puddle of it. The problem is crumbs, junk, dust, etc that accumulates with age. If you have compressed air, blow out the crud that is in there. Use something plastic that is very thin and and/or pointy to loosen the crud stuck to the plastic. I don;t know if you can take the shifter apart - someone else could touch on that - but if its possible and you know how to repair a switch, you can do that. I repair all the electric motors and switches on my cars if they are really expensive or start acting up.
