Looking to buy a 1998 S70
Hey all im 16 looking to buy a 1998 Volvo s70 T5 Turbo 5 Speed. Volvos have been in my family forever and i know they are very reliable and such. I dont want to buy a slow car and then i found this. It seems like it is fast but i thought i would try and get some opinions on it. It has 130,000 miles, leather, cd player, sunroof, power everything, i mean this thing is in amazing shape. The dealer just replaced the abs module, timing belt, evaporator, and other stuff. The engine sounds and looks perfect. As far as im concerned this car looks to me like it is my dream coming true. The only thing im a little shaky on is the price. The dealer is looking to get $9,000.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

The Private Party Kelly Blue Book price for that car in Excellent condition is $6,190. The suggested retail, which I don't think any body should pay is $7,910. I would think you should be able to get that car for around $7,000-$7,500. If it was a private party I would not pay more than $6,200, but the dealer is going to screw you over big time. The wholesale value for that car is around $4,500 which is probably what he paid for it.
Now here's the problem: That is a very hard to find car and the dealer may know that. Then again there are a limited number of people that want a five speed and most that do know what they are worth. What color is it? If it's white or red, my sond might buy it, but not for $9,000. Since you are only 16, the dealer is not going to bargain with you very well. You need to take you Dad in with you and say $6,500 and see what happens. Since you are not trading anything in, he will definitely come down from $9,000. It's just a matter of how far.

My dad came with me when we went and test drove it. The salesman said that he had already talked with his manager and they said that the price was non-negotiable because of all the work they did on it. I think there is a $1,200 warranty included in the price which i may take out because we have mechanics that do stuff cheap for us. Yea the volvo is Red. When i look at the car and compare it to other used cars i dont see it selling for $6500. It is in extremely good condition no doubt about it. Not to mention all the stuff they have done to it and that it is very rare. When we go in again im sure my dad will try and negotiate the price. My dad is a salesman which has benefited us in the past.

The fact that it's red, makes it worth and extra $1,000 in my book. If you don't buy it (which you should) let me know where it's at. I have never driven a Turbo 5 speed, but sure want to. My son has a silver 98 V70 R that his wife drives and he wants an S70 T5M in red or white. ****** that car up before somebody else does. WhenI found my 95 T5R, I put $100 down w/o ever seeing it. By the time I got to it, 200 miles away, the dealer had three other people ready to buy it.
