On opening the car trunk with the regular key the alarm went off. In the manual it says that you turn off the alarm by unlocking the driver door with the key and/or by remote "unlock".

NO. THIS STARTS THE ALARM IN MY MAD CAR.

I tried the trick of disconnecting the battery, turning the key to on position and reconnecting the battery. THE ALARM STILL ON.

There is a mess of cables under the dashboard on the driver's side. Bad luck in identifying the switch to be toggled/relay to be disconnected/fuse to be removed to stop the damn think.

Any help?

This is a follow up:

With the help of AAA the car started. The guy disconnected the earth of the aftermarket siren and the screech stopped. Then he somehow managed to start it. Mechanic in the shop removed the crappy aftermarked alarm causing the trouble. I did not go to Volvo dealership as the operation would be more costly than the car is worth. (It is worth precious nothing, with the gasket blown, AC done and some 40 plus issues in all areas...the alarm was just a little final highlight. Looks forward to the yard...)
