I have a 98 T5 and one night i was driving home after my car was at my friends for a while on a cold night and as i was driving i realized the gas peddle was slow to move and it was being sluggish. It was hard to push down and didnt come out too fast when i took my foot off. As i continued to drive it actually got stuck down and my engine was running at 6000RPM for about 1000ft. Once i got home i was in my driveway and i held the clutch in so it was in neutral. I actually reached down and pulled the gas peddle all the way out and my engine was still running at 2500RPM when it usually idles at about 1000-1500. any ideas? the car has been poorly maintained most of its life, im guessing its the throttle.

 

I would say either throttle cable is sticking or throttle body is VERY dirty.
