Hello forum new guy here with a 1999 S70 stuck in winter mode used my scan tool only code is a evap control issue found a vachuum line loose fixed it but car is from what I have read in limp mode?? any Ideas or help would be greatly appreciated

 

What ever happened?

 

Howdy Volvo forums I replaced and adjusted the PNP switch to no avail car is still down any Ideas?

Winter mode is engaged with the Winter mode button on the shifter. Is it stuck down? My son sometimes will manage to press down the button for the shifter release. Age and gunk makes it stick and prevents removal of the key. You may have the same thing going on with winter mode button.

Limp mode is different and is the computer system keeping the engine running under a failure condition. So... do you have a code?

 

Got the car on the cheap to flip I am a truck kind of guy the only code I was getting was a evap code I fixed a vacuum line and this took care of it and the button works goes in and out as it is supposed to...Engine runs fine it is like it is stuck in 3rd gear

 

You say it's stuck in winter mode. Is this because your arrow is flashing? You also mention that it drives like it's stuck in third gear, which suggests that the transmission has defaulted to a "limp home" setting, owing to some transmission problem. If so it should be safe to drive (up to about 40 mph) somewhere where they can put a factory scan tool on it and give you a diagnosis.
