Newbie with climate control questions
Hi folks! I recently bought a 98 s70 with 118k miles. Seems very good mechanically and is fun to drive.
I have a question about the automatic climate control. The problem seems common, but what's different on mine is I do NOT have any flashing lights on the control unit. Everything works except the passenger side temperature control is stuck on full heat. I took off the damper motor and indeed it does not move at all. When I unplugged the motor I did get flashing lights, but then I plugged it back in and the flashing lights stopped. So for now I have the motor plugged in but physically detached and the damper wedged in cold position.
I found a c70 in the junkyard and got another damper motor, but I don't know how to test it. And I have heard that if I were to connect it to my car and it isnt in the same position the old one was it will confuse the ecc, maybe permanently.
Lastly I don't have an scanner so I can't get any codes off it. I do hsve a fixd obd2 scanner that works on other cars, but I have read that it won't read any ecc codes, just engine stuff.
So, any ideas what i should do next?
Thsnks a bunch,
-Mike

This page lists a $30 code reader that might be able to talk to ECC on a 1998

I'm considering buying a 1998 S70 T5 with 125,000 miles. The dealer is asking $12,900, and is including a limited 2 year/24,000 mile warranty that excludes brakes and the electrical system. I was curious if anyone had any experience driving a S70 T5 with a lot of miles on it and could advise me on whether or not this deal is appealing. The appearance of the car is good, and it accelerates, brakes and handles well.
