i drive a 98 s70 glt with 140k miles on it. when ever i start the car and switch to drive the car makes weird noise. this goes on for maybe 2 or 3 mintues until the engine warms up and when ever i make turns and press the gas pedal. so i was wondering is this normal for this car? or is there something i should do before its too late?

 

Does it sound like a jet engine taking off? If so, it's the air pump- pumps air into the exhaust to help the catalytic converter get up to working temp faster. They're expensitve to replace, too... the part alone is around $400.00... but it won't hurt anything, really. Mine's been whining for about 6 months now, and it still works. I'm going to change it soon. If it fails, the check engine light will come on.

 

no it sounds like something is rubbing agains something else, i dont know but not like jet engine
