Default normal operating range on 99 s70 T5?

I havnt had much time with the car and I searched here and didnt get the answer I need.

my temp gauge was running about 4-5 marks below the red zone on the dash gauge.

I am not familiar with these cars so I didnt know if that was high or normal.

when on the gauge would my fan come on and run after shutting off the car?

I am a little paranoid about the car since its new to me.

I didnt have the AC on and I wasnt really pushing it at all. had my son in the car with me.

The coolant temp gauge should be right in the middle at normal temperature. If they aren't, and there's no coolant leak, change the thermostat. This is a good idea regardless- they fail on these cars often. Get one from IPD or FCPgroton, not AutoZone or Advance, as the quality of most aftermarket 'stats isn't that great, and (at least from FCP) the good ones they have are cheaper. I also suggest changing the coolant temp sensor, located below the thermostat housing, as these also go bad and are cheap, too. Make sure to use a very good quality T40 torx socket to loosen the bolts, as the bolts will likely be very tight, and a cheap one WILL break and strip the bolt head. Coat the bolt threads with anti- seize when reinstalling to prevent future trouble.
