Default Performing first tune-up

Hey, I'm getting ready to do the first tune-up since I bought the car. I haven't noticed any misfiring or anything, just good practice. Having never done one on this car I was wondering if anyone had feedback? What specific plugs and wires will I need to purchase? Tools? And if there's anything proactive I can do during this, i.e MSD or something? Also on a side note same question with the fuel filter (not sure where it is etc). Thanks a lot everyone.

I can't really answer the first questions, but the fuel filter is right in front of the fuel tank and next to the evap. canister (the black box under the car with rubber hoses coming out of it).

Most of this is just my "autosense" here but:
- I don't think you need to change the plug wires very often, maybe every 100k.
- Timing belt and transmission fluid more often, every 70k
- Distributor rotor more often, maybe every 60k
- Spark plugs and air filter more often, maybe every 30k
- Oil and oil filter most often, maybe every 5k

IPD and FCP Groton will have the right plugs, or you can see the Volvo dealer or NAPA guy.

Plugs Bosch FR7DC+ only at dealers or Napa
Toss out the chiltons manual it shows number 5 and 1 reversed and the cap is orientated wrong. The wire layout is the same #1 is at 10 o'clock.
From Napa:
Blue Max wires I use them on every vehicle always fit right.
PN 700870
Cap
PN EP465
Rotor
PN EP467

My cap was oil soaked and my timng was so far off to compensate that when I got the plug wires on right(No thanks to Chilton) the car took forever to get the timing corrected and right.

Get the plugs from Volvo. They'll be gapped already. Every 50k
Air filter and cabin air filter once a year.
Fuel filter - a bear to change, get the car up on good jackstands.
Cap rotor, when you change plugs.
Wires - every other plug change. i like OEM but the Blue Max are good.
I change Radiator fluid every 50k too.

One more thing. What tools will I need? To remove the spark plugs etc.

5/8s spark plug socket.
To remove the cover you need a T30 I think A t25, T27, T 30 and T35 are all in my box. I think it is the T30. For Dizzy cap a straight slot the rotor is a 3mm Allen. The replacement one uses a 5 I think.

If the under the cover area is dirty I would clean it to the aluminum look, it will cool better.

Default Plug Change

I'm a rookie but I always use anti-sieze on the plug threads. I used the Bosch Platinum plugs (no gapping) and have had no problems. If you order from IPD, make sure and get a couple replacement bolts for the cover. I had 1 of the torx bolts strip out and was a pain to get out. If you replace the wires, draw a map 1st. Also replaced rotor and distributer-All OEM and no problems. Good luck

Well the Bosch platinums are not gapped for our compression and coil voltage. P.S. My Volvo shop sells me the stock plugs at a great price and has 5 pistons from a 2.4T and a 2.3 T that had platinums in them and the pistons were trashed. Platinum tips run a lot hotter and under full boost caused piston top failures.
