Default power antenna question

98 S70. This is my first ever power antenna repair. I have the entire power motor assy in hand, have it about 90 % torn down, but I'm stuck. I have the tube assy that houses the actual antenna mast in hand, (the piece the antenna line actually screws into), but cannot get the rest of the mast out of its home now. Tried everything I could "nicely" as to not damage anything further. Is there a pin inside this tube, or something Im missing, It should slide out I would think. I have 0 experience with antennas, (except for ones that just screwed in).

Let me back up a little bit, my antenna was snapped near the base of antenna mount, (thanks to whomever did this). I played hell getting the top silver colored nut off because of the broken antenna mast was bent inside the threads etc.

I appreciate any advice, I am STUCK....Trying to replace $25 mast, not the $240 power antenna assy. (im poor) Thanks in advance.

ps. I tried adding a few photos, but my jpeg files are way too big to attach. If anyones interested I can email them to you.

To replace the antenna mass you don't have to remove the antenna. Just turn on the radio so that the antenna goes all the way up, then remove the nut that comes through the car finder. Then pull the thing out. That simple. Once you start the new one in, have someone turn off the car so that the antenna retracts. That should pull it down.

Yeah, i need to show u a pic. Its actually still broken off in there. Well, with that being said, maybe i can punch the remainder of antenna through the other side? I've held out doing that, in fear of damaging

You can search "antenna" in the forum. Some people have show taking those things totally apart. Most 90's model cars are all the same when it comes to the antennas. Are you saying that you can't even get a grip on the end of it with the body nut removed?

Well, the chromed nut has been off since i have pulled the entire power unit out as an assy. The nut was very hard to get off, because the antenna was broken, snapped, near the base of the antenna, and the deformed metal was spreading into the nut threads.

I don't know how to describe this, but the actual mast, (that's not broken off already), is still stuck inside the mast housing tube piece. This sucker will not let loose either, tried pliers etc to pull it out. Like i said, i have every piece of the entire unit out, and disassembled, just cannot get this stupid remaining mast out. If u were to look straight down the top end of the tube, u would see the snapped, and deformed end of the broken mast. The top part of the mast is totally busted of into a seperate piece, its lying in the trunk.

Have you connected it back to the car and RAISED the antenna by turning on the radio?

Did you do the forum search and check the recent antenna post within the last 60 days?

I fixed it, i just needed to be more aggressive with the hammer and my modified center punch, and bench vise. I finally said the hell with it, its already broken, why not beat the snot out of it, and for once, that worked out ok. That thing came out MEAN!!! Thanx for ur advice.

I thought i would get some steps in here on how can i remove my power antenna. I just got confused i think i will just be aggressive also with a hammer and a little of bumping rather than buy a new power antenna.
