Default Pressure problem

I had my check engine light come on a few weeks ago and took it to my mechanic. He plugged my car in and code 442 came up - low pressure. Figured it was the gas cap, so unscrewed it, tightened it and turned off the light. This happened with 6 gallons of gas in the tank.

Last night the check engine light came on again as I hit 6 gallons left. I'm guessing that it's the same thing as it was before being as it was right at 6 gallons in the tank again. Wondering if it could be something else though. Would getting a new gas cap fix the issue? What else could potentially be wrong? Any thoughts?

On a side note, I live in Oregon where you can't pump your own gas. I always make sure to tighten the cap as I've had the wonderful gas station attendants barely screw it back on before.

Thanks for any help!!

Hope I am not confusing the issue, but the only 442 code i found was

442 Pump pressure low

but this is an ABS fault code; assume it's referring to the ABS brake fluid pump. Did you take this to a Volvo tech, or just some generic gas station to read your codes?

If that's correct, then it's nothing to do with your fuel or evap system. I found the info here so am not positive it's relevant to S70 but think so... Anyone else know for sure, please chime in.

Took it to a Volvo tech - he's the father of a good friend of mine, who I actually bought the car from, so I've just taken his word for it.

It's weird that its happened the last two times I've filled up when the tank gets down to 6 gallons left. Maybe just coincidence.

He had said that sometimes the gas cap not being tight enough will sometimes cause the check engine light to go on. Does that happen or was I fed a load of crap?
