Problem with an alternator, regulator or battery?
Hi everyone,
I am having a problem with a car that I bought recently.
The problem first occurred while I was driving, the battery light came on, then the engine, then "service". I got home, and I could start it first time. Second time it did no start. Searching over the internet, I learned that it might be because of the alternator or the regulator and it's hard to find out which one the problem is.
I took it to the closest repair shop. They said the battery was dead and replaced it, said it is not being charged but cannot say whether it is a problem with the alternator or something else and that it has a problem with injection, sometimes only four cylinders working, sometimes five. So they suggested to take it to the Volvo repair within a week. I left the car there not to discharge the battery but the next day it was still dead and the car would not start at all. The meter showed 9 Volts. We tried to charge it right there, but the car was stopping in a few seconds every time we started it after disconnecting the charger.
Any ideas what can be wrong? Can something cause the battery not being charged and discharging it overnight at the same time?
