Default Fuel pump quick connect not sitting right

I had to replace my fuel pump, it developed a crack on the sending side (left port). It leaked when filling up and was leaving the tank wet with fuel. I took down the tank, replaced all hoses (they were in good shape) with Volvo parts from FCP. The only pump replacement I had available was an aftermarket unit, "AirMix", "AirTec" or some sort of blackbox brand. It was a whopping $370.00!!!! The only relief was that it has a Made in Germany sticker on it and not a Taiwan or Korea sticker. Anyone used that kind of aftermarket pump or similar?

The dilemma I have is the quick connect line did not seat all the way down like the recieving side did. The recieving side actually clicked when inserted. The sending side was a pain to take out and more of a pain to put in. After a couple attempts I managed to get down but not all the way and there was no significant click like the other side did.

Should I worry about this?

two things...

1. Why would you pay $370 for a fuel pump??? You could have gotten a genuine walbro 255 for under $100

2. Did you try to remove it and re seat it?

Hey Matt, yeah that price really hurt, this was yesterday and where I live (Waterbury CT) all we have open on Sunday is either Pep Boys, Advance Auto or AutoZone. The $100 pump they had were just the pump not the entire assembly like what I needed. It was leaking bad and the gas odor was disturbing. If my daily commute didn't require a full fill up I would of ordered an Ebay direct replacement for $60 bucks.

I removed it several times and just never made that clicking noise the return line made. It's about 1/8" of an inch higher than the other line.
I pulled on it firmly and it didn't budge. Knowing how car vibrations are it concerns me.

Well you r problem is the after market housing... they are crap.
Being in CT you could have gotten a used one easily for like $20
or even go pull one from the JY...

Get rid of that housing and youll have no more problems..

Yeah, I was in a pinch, either get the pump and take a financial hit or leak the fuel as I drive and risk a fire.

The JY over here are like a parts store. Used parts are on shelves labeled. They warranty them as long as u bring your old part in and match it up. That couldn't happen, I couldn't get there. When you ask them if they have the part they jump on the internet get an average price of it new and they take off like 30%. Granted their cleaned up a bit, still they would of charged me around $150. This was yesterday, they are closed. No more pick pull over here close to the city, Personal injury lawyers have a field day.

That leaking while driving isn't an option or you'll have a flaming brick.

Where did you get the fuel pump module from ??
Have you called them back and had them double check the application ?? With your VIN if they can use it ??
It might be a defect and if you have the access cover off you can show them what you're talking about. No one wants to eat an expensive part like that but if the line isn't fitting it has to be the line or the pump. Maybe they can help you figure out which it is or they might get you another module ?? Wouldn't hurt to try.
Same with the hose from FCP. Try to get the part number off the hose itself and call them to verify it's the correct hose for your car (VIN). Always a chance wrong hose in right package. Either way it's something you have too much time and money into not to correct and it's too important safety wise not to go further and find the problem and correct it.

My uncle is an old school tool and dye maker and he said he has a tool that I can put on a drill to shave the outlet tube down a thousands at a time. Some type reverse honing bit of some sorts that he uses on a Bridgeport milling machine. With my luck I could probably break the darn thing. It would void the warranty if I do it and the tube breaks when applying the quick connect.

Has anyone heard of these connectors loosing grip over time and popping off?

The quick connect fittings are mostly made of plastic and they have plastic "fingers" that bend out of the way when assembling and snap back once seated.
Over time they can lose that flexibility. Think of all the electrical connectors under the hood that have a retainer and when you try to pry it up a bit to disconnect something they snap off.... same thing.

But yours is new isn't it ?? You replaced the hoses.

I was not able to replace the quick connect lines, I was not prepared for a fuel pump leak. I had a fuel smell and my tank was getting wet when I filling up. I read some threads that said a vent hose on the tank dries out and cracks. So I replaced the vent hoses from FCP which they turned out to be ok. After I thought I fixed it I went for my victory lap. I went to get fuel and left the fuel pump access panel open so I could take a look with a mirror. When I topped off the fuel, low and behold I found my leak. It was coming out like Old Faithful at Yellowstone. The other customers there were looking at me weird after my explicatives. I spent 4 hours taking my time replacing the tank vent hoses and it was 4pm on a Sunday. So that's where I am.
