Angry Removing headlight wiper arms on 98 S70

The two wipers on the headlights have finally broke right where they mount on the wiper shaft. My problem though is that there is a small piece of black plastic left on the shaft that doesn't want to come off. Has anyone removed these pieces before because they look ugly and the wipers don't actually work anymore. I have removed the nut on each shaft but the plastic piece doesn't want to move.
Any help would be appreciated.

Just grab them with some plyers and twist slightly without damaging the rod that comes out of the wiper motor. The rest of the pot metal should break off. One of mine just did the same. Junkyard 10 bucks Some WD-40 may help.
