My 2006 has those new flat euro-wipers. They look good and work well in rain and light snow, but I am finding out in icing conditions and heavy wet snow the wipers build up with ice on the ends and pretty soon lift the blade to where the wiper doesn't clean the windshield. There is no *winter blade* for this system.

What I want to do is buy a set of 2004 wiper arms which take conventional Trico type winter blades and use those instead. Anyone happen to know if the wiper shafts the arms bolt to are the same? Anyone have access to a parts fiche to look up and compare the part numbers between 2004 and 2006?

 

Don't those blades come with universal adapter mounts?

 

No the 2005-2008 have a pinch tab that no one makes an adapter for. ($57 for the Volvo wiper blades BTW)

I emailed Trico and got this response " .....Because the pinch tab wiper arms on your Volvo V70 are so unique, no one currently makeswinter blades for them including the Volvo manufacturer and TRICO.
















I'm going to try the dealer today and see if I can get them to look up the part numbers for the shaft.

 

$57 for the Volvo wiper blades BTW ! ! Those must be the ones approved by NASA for the Space Shuttle.

What was wrong with the old style? Go figure.........

Any chance of modifing what you have, a friend at a machine shop maybe? Then go to TRICO with your design.

 

I stopped at my local dealer today, Before I could complete my question Parts Dude said that 2001-2004 V70 "hook style" arms will bolt right onto the 2006-2008 v70's. Parts dude also said they have been getting a lot of complaints about the new style wipers and several customers have changed to the old style wiper arm, Arms new are $52 each. I saw a used 2003 XC70 pair on EBAY several days ago for $35 . as soon as I got home I bought the used ones.
I will sell the arms from the 06 on ebay and with a little luck I might break about even.

ah motoring bliss once again! The wiper arms and trico snow blades were less than the cost of the Volvo refills, We went out for dinner last night in another heavy wet New England snow storm and the wipers did thier job.
If you ever need to pull the wiper arms Advance and Autozone sell cheap little $12 pullers, they will not pull the arm off by themselves, you have to tighten the puller untill it bends ,then take a hammer and give a couple of taps to the end of the puller shaft and they pop right off. BTW Napa has a puller for $16 that is absolutely worthless it looks and works like a pair of external snap ring pliers with rubber coated forks on the end. You couldn't pry off a fart with them.
