Rough idle possible wires chewed?
Hi, I have a 2000 volvo S70 2.4L NON turbo. About 8 months ago I was getting a code for a bad throttle position sensor, so I changed the etm through Xemodex.
It ran perfectly fine, until recently when rodents got into my car. I had a vacuum leak and a coolant temp sensor code. I managed to fix the vacuum leak. The hose coming from the intake manifold and one down next to the gas tank were chewed. The wires going to the coolant temp sensor were also chewed. I fixed both, the codes were gone, and everything ran fine.
Then recently we got a lot of rain, and all of a sudden my volvo had a rough idle and wouldn't accelerate properly. I got many codes (P1611, P1612, 1613, 1608, 1606) all of which had to do with the etm(loss of signal or low signal). I also had a P1108 for feul air metering. I took it to a specialized volvo shop and they tried to diagnose the etm, but they couldn't communicate with it. They were getting no signal.
I'm wondering if more wires were chewed coming from the etm, but I couldn't find any. Where should I check. Should I check going to the ECU? Where are the grounds located?

This kind of thing is a brute force exercise. My father had a car that a mouse took refuge in and it ate through the windshield washer tube.
If a rodent ate wiring you have to visually inspect everything. Personally, I would start with the connector end to everything and work back to where the wiring joins other wiring. Treat is like a circuit and follow the wiring back to their sources. You should also look under very compact locations, particularly those that are hidden. Rodents tend to want to hide so you have to search those places. However, if you start at connectors and work backwards slowly and in a methodicle path you will have a controlled process so your search is effective.
