S70 CV half shaft
My CV boot on the driver side of my '98 non turbo with 142xxx miles is torn at the wheel and throwing grease. Not getting any grinding or noises coming from it. It looks like it is almost more work to clean / regrease the joints and replace the boot then to just replace the half shaft. But I have also heard those original volvo shafts can last up to 200K miles- Should I replace boot and keep the original part or just replace the whole thing?
I would say just replace the whole thing. It could be pretty worn because of the lack of grease and would eventually give you problems anyway.

Akem, Appreciate the feedback. That's the what I was thinking too. I saw IPD has a shaft puller, do I need this? I read there is some type of clip that holds the axle that makes it kind of a challenge to get out. Also, is there anything else I should look to replace while I have this apart? I just did rotors (original volvo), pads (Akebono Euro) and brake lines (they were cracked). BTW- When bleeding brakes just before Thanksgiving, I found it was a really bad idea to use my wifes new stainless steel turkey baster to suck out brake fluid from the master cylinder. She was a little *&^d about that

I just did this procedure on my '99 S70. You will probably need a shaft puller to disconnect the axle shaft from the front hub. You can borrow one from an auto parts store such as Advance Auto or Autozone for free. You will also need a crow bar to pop the clip that holds the shaft into the transmission. I replaced the outer boots but it's a bit of a labor intense job. Also keep in mind that if one outer boot leaks then most like the other side needs to be replaced.
