S70 easy access point to crank starter?
Hi all,
2000 S70, starter motor doesn't crank. If this was a redblock motor I'd just reach in and clip a remote starter switch onto the starter solenoid and go from there, but with this car there's no way to reach in to the starter motor. (yes I know where to look, I had the head off not long ago, but my big hands need the intake manifold or radiator off in order to have room).
Is there an easy access point, such as a relay, that I could run a hot wire to in order to crank the starter?
Thanks

Not sure offhand, I'd need to go look at a wiring diagram. But really, the best way to get access to the starter is to take the fan out, together with its mounting panel that attaches to the radiator. This gives you several more inches of space to work- it's how I take out the starter on these. Unplug the wires, there's 2 torx screws on the top of the fan mounting, then pull the fan up and out. When you re- install, make sure the pins on the bottom of the fan engage the slots on the radiator. That should give you enough room to reach the starter to clip on a remote switch. That's how I do it.
Not sure if this will help:
Try to check for proper voltage going to the starter. I replaced my starter only to learn that my battery cable connections were bad not sending enough volts to the starter.

Thanks all. Actually, to clarify, I'm pretty sure the starter is fine, I think I have a bad starter immobilizer. While I'm waiting for the new part to come I wanted to double check if it would otherwise crank or not. My radiator fan shroud is a pain to remove: there are intercooler hoses in the way and if I remember right, a really tight wiggle-fit to get it in or out. But it's the way I'll go if I have to get serious here
