After pulling the hood latch lever inside my car the right side of the hood pops up a little but the left side remains down. Using the under hood latch does not release it. Any ideas on how to open hood or fix problem?

Some times they are picky.Have you tryed having someone pull up on the hood while holding the release back?The hood release is a weird set up one cale releases 2 latches.Sometimes the cable stretches some and it is a pain to open the hood.I always keep a wooden wedge in my tool box for just such an occasion.You might have to play with the cable adjustment.First try libbing the heck out of the latches.Another thing you can try is using a pair of pliers carefully pull a little more on the cable inside the car once the handle is pulled all the way.

 

This is a shot in the dark, but my hood is doing the exact same thing. I took a small washer, cut a small groove in it. Then I pulled the cable ball away from the lever and slipped the washer between. I then took a pair of pliers and squeezed the washer shut. This is a cheesey way to make it work but it makes the cable a little longer. Sometimes it takes two little ones or one big washer. I am the redneck volvo repairman.

 

Don't do what I sugjested, I did it and now my left side latch won't latch the hood down.

 

I have this problem on my V70. What works for me is that when only one side unlatches, I push down real hard on the hood and then go pull the inside realease again. It usually works after doing this. If not I have somebody lift up a little on the hood while I pull the release inside.

 

We have messed with cars like this alot and adjusted the latch some and can get some of them to work.

 

I slide a wooden cloth peg under the grill then go pull the lever.

 

My car does the same, takes me about 5 mins to open it my self going back and forth. much easier if there are 2 people haha

 

My S70 did that once. I adjusted the bumper stop on that side to put a little more up pressure on the hood and it has never done it again. Just a slight adjustment.

 

I just got a socket extension set for no reason, and looked for what I could do with them. I gave it a try and adjusted it downward slightly.

I'm having the same issue on my 2003 xc90. One latch releases and the other stays locked, but I can't get the side that releases to lock again. Should I try the suggestions above or use a different approach bc it's a different model?
