Sporadic speedometer and flashing arrow

Sporadically, the digital info on my speedometer goes away, and the flashing arrow starts which in turns leaves my automatic transmission in D or 3d gear; can someone shed some light onmy issue and a cost-effective fix.

What digital info? You should have your cel read at a local autoparts store. Then post them here.
